Description:
EFS is "mail relay" software. It was specifically designed to give people with "part time" (dialup) connections to the Internet (or those with fulltime connections but their Internet Service Provider (ISP) does not support ETRN) a way of retrieving mail from their ISP and delivering messages to an internal mail server, such as the freeware EMWAC IMS. You don't need a static IP address with EFS - it works on the principal that you have a part time connection, therefore a dynamic IP address. What make's EFS unique amongst most other POP3 retrievers is it's "Internal routing" feature - the ability to accept and send mail specific to your domain. This is why EFS requires you to have a domain name (although it still works without one) so it knows which recipients of a message the mail is intended for.
